Portsmouth New Hampshire... The greatest submarine in the U.S. naval forces was launched here today, December 27, when the V-2 slid down the ways and took to the water. The craft is 341 feet 6 inches over all, nearly twice the size of any other under sea craft except her sister ship the V-1 which recently was placed in service. The submarine has a surface speed of 21 knots an hour and a submerged speed of 9 knots, sufficient to keep the submarine up with major ships during fleet maneuvers. The V-2 was christened by Mrs. Douglas E. Dismukes, wife of the Commandant of the Portsmouth Navy Yard. Dec. 27 1924
