Description

This unique, custom built, 1:25 scale, long nose D Type Jaguar from the 1954 - 1957 sports racing car era is being offered for sale. The body of this model is from a vintage Lindberg model kit and the E Type chassis and running gear are from a vintage Revell kit. It took weeks of cutting, grinding, fitting and sanding to construct this one of a kind car.
Even though all the parts are the same and of the same scale, no two of all that I have built are completely alike due to the
complexity of the construction.
Built the way a replica D Type is manufactured today using an E Type chassis, engine and running gear. Painted using Humbrol Italian Red with custom made decals. There was one red D Type produced at the Jaguar factory. The wheels do not roll to add strength to the axle assemblies. Rubber tires on chrome plated, knock off, cast, slotted wheels. The flipnose hood gives full access to the engine compartment. The XK engine is fitted with triple Weber carburetors. The E Type chassis wheelbase had to be shortened 3mm to accommodate the body. I will be fabricating a short nose version from similar parts in the future. It will be green.There will probably be no more after that. There are no factory manufactured D Type models with these details available in 1:25 scale.
Original 1:25 scale D Type kits from Lindberg, Premier and Strombecker still exist but are nothing more than a 3 piece body shell with wheels and tires. They are what I use to make these complete, detailed models. There is also an expensive, resin cast body shell kit available. Rare, Revell XKSS kits
exist in 1:24 scale with detailed chassis but these are not D Types and they are horribly expensive.
This is why I went to the trouble to create this model in 1:25 scale and am able to offer one for sale. Please feel free to contact me for any further details or pictures.
