    Description

Instructions Given to Robert Ladbroke 1769 London Satirical Broadside
    Description:
INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN TO SIR ROBERT LADBROKE, KNT. WILLIAM BECKFORD, ESQ; THE RIGHT HON. THOMAS HARLEY, ESQ; AND BARLOW TRECOTHICK, ESQ; REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CITY OF LONDON: BY THEIR CONSTITUENTS. Broadside, 12.75 x 7.5 inches; woodcut cartoon above double columned text. Five ½ to ¾ closed tears. Lower margin trimmed, chipped with loss to a few letters, creased. Good.
A satirical broadside that prints fourteen “instructions,” signed in type by Charles Clavey. Beckford and Ladbroke, of the Court Party, were fond of issuing “instructions” to other Members of Parliament. The creators of this broadside have thus cooked up their own set of “instructions” by which the court party may curb their own excesses.
