DETAILS:Original concert poster handbill for Lightnin Hopkins and Bukka White blues concert held at The Cabale, 2504 San Pablo Ave at Dwight Way, University Of California, Berkeley.
Circa 1963. Measures 10" x 8 1/2" inches.
The Cabale, at 2504 San Pablo Avenue (at Dwight), was a folk club founded in late 1962 by Rolf Cahn and Debbie Green (two Cambridge, Mass. folkies) along with Howard Zeem and Red Dog alum Chandler A. Laughlin III (later known as Travus T. Hipp). Cahn had previously owned the Blind Lemon at 2362 San Pablo. The Cabale club was known to book some of the finest jazz and blues musicians available at the time and a popular spot for many Berkeley students. It was also an early gathering place for many progressive and radical campus groups seeking social justice and an end to the War in Vietnam.
