    Description

    Original Deed - Leominster, Massachusetts - 1795
Jotham Johnson (1753 - 1827)  to Josiah Knapp (1753 - 1843) For Sale of Land with a Store
    for 250 Pounds
This is the third deed I've had involving Jotham Johnson of Leominster.  The previous two also were for the sale of a piece of land with a store on it.  On the earliest one, old Jotham was the buyer and he bought the land with a store for ten pounds in 1885.  Looks like he might have sold it twice and at a huge profit.
In genealogical records He's shown as a shopkeeper.  Josiah of Boston is shown as a merchant.  Both men could have fought in the Revolutionary War.  I didn't look.
The old deed is great looking as a decorative item.  It's a bit rough around the edges but framed onto a dark  background, the roughness becomes attractive - more so than a straight boring sheet of paper.
It was particularly rough on the right edge but I've patched it up a bit with special ultra-thin archival tape made specially for that purpose.  On the back side, of course.
    The size is approx:   11" x 7-3/4"
    Inv. No. 1439
